Tenders Called for Wharf Repairs in Coastal Labrador

The Department of Transportation and Works has called tenders for the rehabilitation of docking facilities at Hopedale, Postville, Rigolet, and Black Tickle, as the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador continues its record investment in provincial infrastructure.

“The docking facilities in these coastal communities are vital to maintaining our northern transportation network,” said the Honourable Tom Hedderson, Minister of Transportation and Works. “Once complete, this work will ensure these docking facilities will continue to be effective links in the transport of goods and services for the region.”

Work will include the repair, adjustment, or replacement of various components of the facilities in each community, which may include fenders, wheelguards, ladders, and decks components.

“The sea is the gateway for many goods and services in these coastal communities,” said the Honourable Nick McGrath, Minister for Intergovernmental and Aboriginal Affairs and Minister Responsible for Labrador Affairs. “These infrastructure improvements are consistent with our goal under the Northern Strategic Plan for Labrador to provide an integrated transportation system that is responsive to business and individual needs.”

Budget 2012: People and Prosperity provides a total of approximately $30 million to enhance marine services in the province, including an investment of $4 million for maintenance and upgrades to provincial ferry terminals and wharves.
