Highway Drainage Systems to See Upgrades in Trinity North

Provincial highway drainage systems throughout Trinity North will be enhanced as the Department of Transportation and Works calls a tender for improvements to systems spanning 10 provincial highways and additional side roads.

“In the wake of weather events such as Tropical Storm Ophelia in 2011 and Hurricane Igor in 2010, it is important to make improvements to drainage systems in this region,” said the Honourable Tom Hedderson, Minister of Transportation and Works. “Storms can forever change the landscape, but with the improvements that will be made as part of this tender, we are working to protect our highway infrastructure in this region.”

Ditching and culvert repair and replacement will take place along sections of Route 1, Route 2-1-09, Route 204, Route 205, Route 230A, Route 230-15, Route 230-21, Route 231, Route 232, Route 239 and various side roads.

Budget 2012: People and Prosperity – Responsible Investments for a Secure Future includes an investment of $165.1 million to enhance provincial road and bridge infrastructure, supplemented by $60 million in Federal Government funding, for a total investment in 2012-13 of $225.1 million.
