Road Work Announced for Trans Canada Highway

Asphalt repairs will be made to sections of the Trans Canada Highway (TCH) between Whitbourne and Port Blandford in eastern Newfoundland this season as the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador continues to invest in highway infrastructure.

“This is the most travelled highway in our province and it is the backbone of the highway network,” said the Honourable Tom Hedderson, Minister of Transportation and Works. “This is an important investment in the maintenance of this highway, which serves as a link between our communities, and is vital for moving people and goods throughout the province.”

The Department of Transportation and Works has called a tender for asphalt repairs for sections of the TCH starting at Whitbourne and continuing west for a distance of approximately 75 kilometres. Repaving of sections of the highway will continue on to Port Blandford. Also included in the tender is pulverizing and paving sections of Long Harbour Road for a distance of approximately two kilometres.

Budget 2012: People and Prosperity includes an investment of $165.1 million to enhance provincial road and bridge infrastructure, supplemented by $60 million in Federal Government funding, for a total investment in 2012-13 of $225.1 million.
