Four Bridges Set for Repair in Placentia-St. Mary’s Area
The Department of Transportation and Works is calling a tender for repair work for four bridges along Route 92 in the Placentia-St. Mary’s area.
“With the summer construction season well underway, we are now engaging in substantial road and bridge infrastructure projects such as these bridge renovations,” said the Honourable Tom Hedderson, Minister of Transportation and Works. “Maintaining highway infrastructure is a priority for this government, and this work will benefit area residents and businesses alike.”
Big Barachois Brook Bridge, Little Barachois Brook Bridge, Red Head River Bridge, and Beckford River Bridge will undergo repairs as part of this contract. Work will include joint replacement, repair and replacement of railings, and concrete deck repair. The work will be carried out this construction season and traffic will be maintained with one lane while work is ongoing.
“Regular inspection and repair are key to maintaining quality transportation infrastructure,” said the Honourable Felix Collins, Minister of Justice and MHA for Placentia - St. Mary’s. “This work will ensure these bridges along Route 92 continue to be strong links in our regional transportation network into the future.”
Budget 2012: People and Prosperity includes an investment of $165.1 million to enhance provincial road and bridge infrastructure, supplemented by $60 million in Federal Government funding, for a total investment in 2012-13 of $225.1 million.
