Public Advisory: Temporary Changes to Strait of Belle Isle Ferry Schedule

The Department of Transportation and Works advises that effective Sunday, April 15, temporary changes will be made to the ferry schedule for the Strait of Belle Isle that will be in effect until ice conditions improve.

On Sundays, the MV Apollo will make its first departure of the day from Blanc Sablon at 8:00 a.m. instead of 10:30 a.m. The rest of the departures for the day will take place two hours earlier than originally scheduled.

On Wednesdays and Thursdays, the MV Apollo will make its first departure of the day from Blanc Sablon at 8:00 a.m. instead of 10:30 a.m.

On Fridays, the 3:30 p.m. departure from St. Barbe and the 6:00 p.m. departure from Blanc Sablon will be cancelled.

Severe ice conditions in the Strait of Belle Isle have increased the length of time it takes to complete a ferry crossing, which is causing the vessel to operate later in the day. These temporary schedule changes will maximize the number of hours the MV Apollo will operate in daylight, which will provide the best possible conditions for navigating the heavy ice in the area.

Users of the MV Apollo can call 1-866-535-2567 or visit www.labradormarine.com for further information about the service between St. Barbe to Blanc Sablon.
