$65.8 million Investment Through Budget 2012 for Trans Labrador Highway

With a Budget 2012 investment of $65.8 million, the Provincial Government will call the final tenders to complete Phase I of the Trans Labrador Highway from Labrador West to Happy Valley-Goose Bay.

“With the tendering of these projects, I am pleased to say we are another step closer to achieving our 2011 Blue Book commitment to complete the Trans Labrador Highway – one of the largest road infrastructure projects ever undertaken to meet the economic and social needs of the people in the province,” said the Honourable Tom Hedderson, Minister of Transportation and Works. “I look forward to seeing the completion of Phase I, which will significantly enhance economic and social development in the region.”

The paving will be completed in two contracts that will be worked on simultaneously over a two-year period. One contract will complete paving from Happy Valley-Goose Bay to Churchill Falls. The second contract will complete paving from Wabush Junction to Churchill Falls.

“The completion of Phase I will indeed be great news for Labrador and for those who travel the Trans Labrador Highway for business and pleasure,” said the Honourable Nick McGrath, Minister Responsible for Labrador Affairs. “Our Northern Strategic Plan continues to improve the health and well-being of all Labradorians through expanding infrastructure, improving the delivery of programs and services, and encouraging economic prosperity.”

The Provincial Government will have invested approximately $252 million for this phase of the Trans Labrador Highway when it is completed.
