Social Housing Renovated in Badger

Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation has completed $97,000 in renovations on four social housing properties in Badger.

“The renovations are part of the ongoing modernization and improvement program being delivered throughout the province,” said the Honourable Tom Hedderson, Minister Responsible for Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation. “We are achieving great results that enhance the quality of our properties and help revitalize neighbourhoods.”

Renovations to units located on Third Avenue and Fourth Avenue included new windows, doors, shingles, waterlines, landings and landscaping, as well as attic and basement insulation.

“I am pleased to see Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation’s substantial investments in upgrading and maintaining its social housing properties in Badger,” said the Honourable Susan Sullivan, Minister of Health and Community Services and MHA for Grand Falls-Windsor - Buchans. “These renovations improve the quality of these homes and create a more comfortable living space for tenants.”

A Social Housing Plan for Newfoundland and Labrador - Secure Foundations, released by the Provincial Government in August 2009, outlines a long-term vision for social housing. It is aimed at improving the housing circumstances of low-income households and helping create healthier communities. Budget 2011 Standing Strong: For Prosperity. For Our Future. For Newfoundland and Labrador allocated $25.9 million for social housing infrastructure, including $10.4 million for maintenance and $12 million for renovations and improvements.

Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation is the province’s largest landlord with approximately 5,573 non-profit social housing dwellings province-wide.
