Recreation Grants Enhance Community Programming

Communities in Newfoundland and Labrador are receiving over $1.2 million to support recreation, sport, and active living programs through recreation grants supported by the Provincial Government. The Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation, was in Little Burnt Bay today to highlight this investment in recreation and sport.

“I am pleased to announce the funding being provided to local recreation and sport committees,” said Minister French. “The Provincial Government’s grant programs encourage all citizens to be more active and enjoy the various recreational and physical activities that are being offered in their communities. I commend the efforts of committee members for their hard work and dedication to building a healthier and more active Newfoundland and Labrador.”

So far this fiscal year, the Provincial Government has invested approximately $575,000 in community recreation development grants and $635,000 in capital grants. Included in today’s announcement was $7,500 in funding for the Norris Arm North Recreation Committee and $3,000 to both the Laurenceton Fit Club and the Little Burnt Bay Town Council.

“I am pleased to join Minister French today to announce the recreation grants in the Lewisporte area and throughout the province,” said Wade Verge, MHA for Lewisporte. “The recreation grants made available through the Provincial Government help in a large way to fund many worthwhile recreation projects in towns like Little Burnt Bay, Norris Arm North, and Laurenceton.”
