Charlottetown and Dover Receive Community Capital Grant Funding

The Charlottetown Recreation Committee and the Dover Recreation Commission have received a total of $15,000 through the Provincial Government’s Community Capital Grant Program. The funding will assist with upgrades to Dover playground equipment and repairs to the Charlottetown community rink.

“Citizens and children of all ages will benefit from the repairs and upgrades to these community facilities,” said the Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. “The revitalization of recreation and sport-based infrastructure is imperative to the continued improvement of community programs and to the well-being of residents.”

The Charlottetown Recreation Committee and the Dover Recreation Commission received grants of $7,500 each.

“This funding will allow these communities to provide new recreational opportunities to their residents,” said Sandy Collins, MHA for Terra Nova. “I commend the hard work and dedication displayed by both recreation committees and I applaud their commitment to encouraging active and healthy lifestyles.”

The Charlottetown Recreation Committee and the Dover Recreation Commission are among numerous community-based organizations, municipalities, schools, and recreation committees which have received funding to upgrade their recreation and sport infrastructure through these latest Community Capital Grant Program investments.

Budget 2012: People and Prosperity provides $8.6 million to support recreation and sport in the province. Since the launch of the Provincial Government’s recreation and sport strategy, Active, Healthy Newfoundland and Labrador (2007) , more than $70 million has been committed to recreational and sport infrastructure, programming, and athlete development throughout the province.
