Two Newfoundlanders Appointed to SFC Youth Olympic Festival Team

Mount Pearl native, Samantha Marsh, has earned a position on the Shooting Federation of Canada’s, Australian Youth Olympic Festival Team, in the sport of 50 metre three position rifle. She earned her spot on the team by finishing second in the 3P Junior Women’s Category, at the 2012 Canadian Small Bore Nationals. This event exposes Marsh to very high level competition experience as she prepares for the 2015 Canada Winter Games.

Samantha’s coach, Dave Woolridge was appointed head coach of this team. This will be his first appointment as a National Team Coach. Dave brings many years of experience as an international athlete and high performance coach.

The Olympic Youth Festival is a multisport event organized by the IOC, to encourage upcoming junior athletes to prepare for Olympic competition. The festival happens between January 16 and 20, 2013, in Sydney, Australia. This festival will see junior athletes from 30 nations participating in 17 sports. Seventy-nine athletes will compete in the 10 shooting events. Canada is sending eight athletes for various shooting events.
