Francois Recreation Centre’s Repairs Funded by Capital Grant Program

The Provincial Government’s Community Capital Grant Program has approved $15,000 in funding to assist with the restoration and enhancement of the Francois Recreation Centre.

“The Community Capital Grant Program has supported many recreation and sport development projects throughout the province,” said the Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. “Funding to enhance the Francois Recreation Centre will ensure that residents have a safe place to participate in healthy and fun physical activities.”

The Francois Recreation Centre is among several community-based organizations, municipalities, and recreation commissions which have received funding to upgrade their recreation and sport infrastructure through these latest Capital Grant Program investments.

“I highly commend the dedicated efforts of the Francois Recreation Committee to ensure that residents have access to healthy living programs and safe facilities to participate in recreational and social activities,” said Tracey Perry, MHA for Fortune Bay - Cape La Hune. “We are very grateful for this funding which will ensure that the recreation centre remains the hub of this vibrant, small community.”

Budget 2012: People and Prosperity provides $8.6 million to support recreation and sport in the province. Since the launch of the Provincial Government’s recreation and sport strategy, Active, Healthy Newfoundland and Labrador (2007), more than $70 million has been committed to recreational and sport infrastructure, programming, and athlete development throughout the province.
