Exploits Communities Receive Community Capital Grant Funding

The Town of Point Leamington and the Leading Tickles Recreation Committee have received a total of $15,000 through the Provincial Government’s Community Capital Grant Program. The funding will assist the Town of Point Leamington with the construction of a bandstand and the Leading Tickles Recreation Committee with the purchase of playground equipment.

“Projects such as these are fundamental to the physical, recreational, and social well-being of communities,” said the Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. “It is encouraging to assist in projects that will provide residents with safe and upgraded equipment to participate in recreational activities.”

Respectively, the Town of Point Leamington and the Leading Tickles Recreation Committee received grants of $6,000 and $9,000.

“Smaller rural communities welcome the opportunity to be able to access government funding to improve community infrastructure and recreation facilities,” said Clayton Forsey, MHA for Exploits. “This funding will certainly make play areas safer and help contribute to a healthier lifestyle for people in the communities.”

The Town of Point Leamington and the Leading Tickles Recreation Committee are among numerous community-based organizations, municipalities, schools, and recreation committees which have received funding to upgrade their recreation and sport infrastructure through the Community Capital Grant Program investments.

Budget 2012: People and Prosperity provides $8.6 million to support recreation and sport in the province. Since the launch of the Provincial Government’s recreation and sport strategy, Active, Healthy Newfoundland and Labrador (2007), more than $70 million has been committed to recreational and sport infrastructure, programming, and athlete development throughout the province.
