The following is being distributed at the request of School Sports Newfoundland and Labrador:

Provincial Cross Country Running Championships in Stephenville this Weekend

Provincial Cross Country runners will be hosted by Stephenville High this weekend. Provincial Team and individual champions will be declared in Senior Boys, Senior Girls, Junior Boys and Junior Girls. Individual champions will also be declared in the Special Olympics male and female categories.

Schools registered for the Senior Girls Team event are Holy Heart of Mary High (St. John’s), Marystown Central High, Gander Collegiate, Indian River High (Springdale), Bayside Academy (Port Hope Simpson), Menihek High (Labrador City) and the host, Stephenville High.

Teams registered for the Senior Boys team are the host, Stephenville High, Marystown Central High, Gander Collegiate, Valmont Academy, Labrador Straits Academy (L’Anse Au Loup) and Menihek High (Labrador City).

Teams registered for the Junior Girls are the host, Stephenville High, St. Kevin’s Junior High (Goulds), Gander Collegiate, Indian River High (Springdale) and Labrador Straits Academy (L’Anse Au Loup)

Teams registered for the Junior Boys are the host, Stephenville High, Gander Collegiate, Copper Ridge Academy (Baie Verte) and Labrador Straits Academy (L’Anse Au Loup).

Schools registered for the Individual events include: Stephenville High, Copper Ridge Academy (Baie Verte) and Labrador Straits Academy (L’Anse Au Loup), Glovertown Academy, Mealy Mountain Collegiate (Happy Valley-Goose Bay), Baccalieu Collegiate (Old Perlican), King Academy (Hr. Breton), Botwood Collegiate, St. Mary’s All Grade (Mary’s Hr.), Laval High (Placentia), Henry Gordon Academy (Cartwright), Holy Heart of Mary (St. John’s), Fogo Island Central Academy, St. Lawrence Academy, Stella Maris Academy (Trepassey), Indian River High (Springdale), Valmont Academy (King’s Point) and Prince of Wales Collegiate (St. John’s).

Gold, silver and bronze individual medals, gold and silver team medals and championship banners will be awarded to the winning teams. School Sports Newfoundland and Labrador believes strongly in the values and principles of Sportsmanship. In recognition of this, an individual sportsmanship medal will be presented to deserving persons. School Sports Newfoundland and Labrador tournaments are made possible, in part, because of the generous support of corporate sponsors. Subway and Dairy Farmers Association/School Milk Foundation are sponsors of SSNL.
