St. Shott’s and Calvert Receive Community Capital Grant Funding

The St. Shott’s Recreation Committee and the Calvert Community Centre have received a total of $15,000 through the Provincial Government’s Community Capital Grant Program. The funding will assist in repairs to the St. Shott’s Community Centre and the Calvert ball field.

“The Provincial Government is pleased to fund repairs to the St. Shott’s Community Centre and the Calvert ball field,” said the Honourable Derrick Dalley, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. “The community centre and ball field are ideal places for residents to engage in physical, recreational, and social activities.”

Respectively, the St. Shott’s Recreation Committee and the Calvert Community Centre received grants of $8,600 and $6,400.

“I am pleased to continue to work with the community groups in my area to enhance community infrastructure which is so vital in any region,” said the Honourable Keith Hutchings, Minister of Innovation, Business, and Rural Development and MHA for Ferryland. “I congratulate all the volunteers involved for the great time and effort they put into improving regional recreation infrastructure.”

The St. Shott’s Recreation Committee and the Calvert Community Centre are among numerous community-based organizations, municipalities, schools, and recreation committees which have received funding to upgrade their recreation and sport infrastructure through these latest Community Capital Grant Program investments.

Budget 2012: People and Prosperity provides $8.6 million to support recreation and sport in the province. Since the launch of the Provincial Government’s recreation and sport strategy, Active, Healthy Newfoundland and Labrador (2007), more than $70 million has been committed to recreational and sport infrastructure, programming, and athlete development throughout the province.
