New Playground in the Works for Portland-Jamestown-Winterbrook Area
The Portland-Jamestown-Winterbrook Recreation Committee has received a $15,000 grant through the Provincial Government’s Community Capital Grant Program to assist with the construction of a playground and recreation park.
“This funding will be used to help purchase playground equipment and to develop the park area,” said the Honourable Derrick Dalley, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. “We are pleased to contribute to this project, so residents can enjoy increased recreation, social, and physical activities.”
The Portland-Jamestown-Winterbrook Recreation Committee is among the many community-based organizations, municipalities, schools, and recreation commissions which have received funding to upgrade their recreation and sport infrastructure through these latest Community Capital Grant Program investments.
“I am delighted for the residents of the Portland-Jamestown-Winterbrook area, particularly the children, who will enjoy the new playground and recreation site that is underway,” said Glen Little, MHA for Bonavista South. “The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador is committed to providing opportunities, such as this, to encourage our youth to be more physically active.”
Budget 2012: People and Prosperity provides $8.6 million to support recreation and sport in the province. Since the launch of the Provincial Government’s recreation and sport strategy, Active, Healthy Newfoundland and Labrador (2007), more than $70 million has been committed to recreational and sport infrastructure, programming, and athlete development throughout the province.
