Lawn Receives Support for Outdoor Multipurpose Court

The Lawn Recreation Commission has received $15,000 from the Provincial Government’s Community Capital Grants Program to help offset costs associated with developing a multipurpose court.

“Funding through this program improves community recreation facilities and outdoor areas,” said the Honourable Derrick Dalley, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. “A project such as this will encourage community residents to engage in more physical, recreational, and social activities in a safe environment.”

The Lawn Recreation Commission is among several community-based organizations, municipalities, schools, and recreation commissions which have received funding to upgrade their recreation and sport infrastructure through these latest capital grant program investments.

“It’s absolutely great to see the Town of Lawn and the Lawn Recreation Commission benefit from this program," said the Honourable Darin King, Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture and MHA for Grand Bank. "This funding will certainly help in the promotion of participation in physical activities among residents and will help enable them to have increased access to recreational opportunities in an outdoor setting.”

Budget 2012: People and Prosperity provides $8.6 million to support recreation and sport in the province. Since the launch of the Provincial Government’s recreation and sport strategy, Active, Healthy Newfoundland and Labrador (2007), more than $70 million has been committed to recreational and sport infrastructure, programming, and athlete development throughout the province.
