Nine Shooters Completed the Avalon-Open

With the recent surge in competitive shooting the Newfoundland and Labrador Shooting Association hosted an outdoor small bore competition at St. John’s Rod and Gun Club in Holyrood this past weekend. Nine competitors were evenly distributed between Sporting Rifle and ISSF Rifle. Sporting Rifle is an introductory event that parallels Olympic shooting, while ISSF Rifle is the Olympic event.

Five shooters fired Sporting Rifle Prone. Dave Taylor claimed match champion in the Open and Any Sights events shooting 566, 6X. The X count is the number of inner 10s. Second was Josh Mailman with 554, 6X. Timothy Rozee was both top junior and top Tyro Class. Neil Strong finished second in the Tyro Class.

The ISSF event was split into prone and a modified three positions (3-P) event. Five shooters fired the prone match with Ben Taylor putting in a score of 554 out of 600 taking match winner and top junior, while Brenda Greene shot 551 to for second overall and top woman.

In 3-P Brenda Greene won the match with a 520. Top Junior went to Samantha Marsh with a score of 481.
