2012 Canadian National Handball Championships
Montreal May 29-June 2

Tyler Mesh came second in the 17 and under boys, losing in the finals to Parker Dorothy of Edmonton-21-13, 7-21, 6-11. Mesh teamed with Chris Simmons of St. John’s, to capture the Men’s B Doubles Title 21-4, 21-8 over Joe Berthiauma and Mike Griffin of Quebec 9-21, 21-7, 11-5.

Michael Gaulton captured the 15 and under Boys defeating teammate Ben Delaney in the final 13-21, 21-6,6-11. Gaulton and Delaney captured the 15 and under Boys Doubles defeating Alam Bourgois and Rory Rakochey of Ontario 21-10, 21-8

Girls 15 and under Abby Vanderkloet lost in the finals to Myra Koval of Calgary 21-19, 21-6. Vanderkloet and Anna Carew came second in Girls Doubles losing to Karly and Kylie Flynn of Sask. 21-16, 9-21, 11-7 in the finals.

Boys 13 and under Alex Carew and Ian Pumphrey won the 13 and under Boys Doubles defeating Noah Cote of St. John's and his partner Carter Rakochey of Calgary in the final 21-8,21-10

15 year Leslie Amminson won her first match in the Women’s Open defeating Natasha Golding of Ontario 21-4, 21-17. She then lost to tournament winner Samantha England of Rochester NY, 21-4, 21-6. Amminson then teamed up with Lavonah Madden of Nova Scotia losing in the semi finals of the Women’s Open doubles 21-16, 17-20, 11-5 to Carly Stickles and Jenine Wilson of Ontario

Other highlights of the Championships were NL Capturing the Richard Kearney Memorial award for top junior team over all. Other members of the team were Rhiannon Cooper, Moira Cooper and Jacob Vanderkloet.

Anna Carew winning the Renee Hurley Memorial award voted on by the junior female players for the junior girl who displays the most character on and off the court. Chris Simmons winning Men’s B Singles 21-9, 21-4 over Adam Johnston of Ontario. Wayne Amminson made it to the semi-finals of the super masters division, losing to Ivan Elliot of Niagara, Ontario 21-20, 21-16. Mike Stevenson made it to the semi-finals in the Masters before losing to Nathan Body in the semis 21-19, 21-15.

Next stop for Newfoundland and Labrador Handball is the 2012 World Championships in Dublin Ireland in October 2012.
