The Rooms Welcomes the Royal Academy of Arts

The Rooms is pleased to welcome the 132nd Annual General Assembly of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts (RCA), from May 24 through 27.

The Royal Canadian Academy of Arts is one of Canada’s most enduring cultural institutions. Established in 1880, today’s academy is composed of over 700 established professionals working across Canada in 20 visual arts disciplines; from painting and sculpture to architecture, design, fine craft, photography and filmmaking.

To celebrate the Annual General Assembly in St. John’s, The Rooms Provincial Art Gallery will highlight RCA members represented within its permanent collection. Inner Works: Selections from the People’s Collection includes works by David Blackwood, Ron Bolt, Mike Massie, Christopher Pratt, Mary Pratt, Helen Shepherd and other notable artists associated with the province. In addition, the exhibition will feature a new sculpture by Newfoundland-born Zeke Moores, recently acquired by the generous support of the RCA Trust Fund.

The RCA Trust Fund was established in 1973, with the mandate to receive funds to assist in the encouragement and cultivation of the highest standards in the creative arts in Canada. It assists regional public galleries in adding to their permanent collections by providing grants for the purchase of works by living Canadian artists.

In celebration of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts coming to the province, and in conjunction with the EVA Awards, a reception will be held at The Rooms, today (Friday, May 25) at 7:30 p.m., media are welcome to attend, as is the general public.
