The following is being distributed at the request of School Sports Newfoundland and Labrador:

Women in Sport Conference Lead Active; Women Taking Action

There will be a Women in Sport Conference titled Lead Active; Women Taking Action. This conference will be held at Memorial University’s School of Human Kinetics and Recreation on May 4 and 5, 2012. The is a conference intended to provide education and professional development for students (Grade 10+) and adults interested in the subject of physical activity, recreation and sport targeting females. Through this conference the hope is to encourage, support and motivate females to participate in, develop and lead active programs within their own community.

The conference will consist of a variety of workshops, activities, etc. that will provide a setting for learning, trying new things, networking, creativity and more. Anyone with an interest in physical activity, recreation and sport programming for females is welcome to attend. This conference is intended for any youth and adult leaders. It is recommended those interested apply as a pair (youth and adult) as this team approach will be a beneficial support when participants return home to bring the message of the conference to their local area. Co-applicants are encouraged but not mandatory.

Participants approved will be eligible for subsidies for travel, meals and accommodations. Participants not approved for subsidies are still eligible to attend the conference.

Applications must be completed and returned to the School Sport NL Office by April 6, 2012. Applications can be downloaded from the School Sport website www.schoolsportsnl.ca and faxed to 709-729-2705.
