Heritage Organizations Supported With Additional Funding

This past year, $76,000 in additional funding was provided to eight heritage organizations through the Heritage Tourism Anchor Attractions Fund, an initiative of the Provincial Government’s Cultural Economic Development Program.

“As well as operational funding through the Cultural Economic Development Program, a variety of organizations have received supplementary financial support through the Heritage Tourism Anchor Attractions Fund,” said the Honourable Derrick Dalley, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. “This funding is provided in recognition of the role that the heritage organizations play as regional economic generators. We are working with these groups to enhance best practices in the areas of visitor experience and collections management.”

To qualify for this funding, organizations must have received operational support from the Cultural Economic Development Program for the past three years and have a minimum annual operating budget of at least $200,000 in eligible expenses. As well, the site must be operational and open to visitors for the past five years. Details regarding the sites that have received funding are available in backgrounder below.

The Provincial Government provides approximately $894,700 in annual operational support to community heritage organizations in the province under the Cultural Economic Development Program, including museums, archives and heritage interpretation centres.

Budget 2011 Standing Strong: For Prosperity. For Our Future. For Newfoundland and Labrador provides $2.9 million through its Cultural Economic Development Program to support arts, cultural, and heritage initiatives throughout the province. Projects are selected based on the strength of the business plan, vision, and potential development within the sector.
