Provincial Arts and Culture Centres Embrace the Winter Season
Residents of Newfoundland and Labrador, as well as visitors to the province, are invited to escape the winter weather for a visit to one of the six regional Arts and Culture Centres. Performances include rousing musical shows, thought-provoking plays, and laugh-out-loud comedy.
“Season after season, the centres continue to explore new initiatives and showcase incredible musical, theatrical, and artistic talent,” said the Honourable Derrick Dalley, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. “The new schedule features a variety of events that are sure to entertain patrons of all ages.”
Winter programming includes community partnerships such as Frolic, taking place in March. This is a project which explores the province’s French culture and is the result of a new partnership with Le Réseau culturel francophone de Terre-Neuve-et-Labrador.
In addition to the expansion of community partnerships, the Arts and Culture Centres are working on some in-house projects. For example, Rig, a production currently in development, is a play written by Joan Sullivan and is an adaptation of Mike Heffernan's book Rig: An Oral History of the Ocean Ranger Disaster. Rig will be presented in February to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Ocean Ranger tragedy.
Tickets can be purchased online for performances at Arts and Culture Centres in St. John’s, Corner Brook, and Stephenville. Online ticketing for the Arts and Culture Centres in Gander, Grand Falls-Windsor, and Labrador West will be available soon. The box offices are still available for those who prefer to purchase tickets in the traditional manner.
The winter schedule for 2012 can be viewed in the backgrounder below. Please note that show dates are accurate as of the time of publication. The calendar may change throughout the season. For more information about the regional Arts and Culture Centres, visit www.artsandculturecentre.com.
