NAOSH Week Proclaimed in Newfoundland and Labrador

The Honourable Paul Davis, Minister of Service NL, has proclaimed May 6–12 as North American Occupational Safety and Health (NAOSH) Week in Newfoundland and Labrador. NAOSH Week is an important opportunity to focus on workplace hazards and how they can be eliminated or more effectively controlled in order to create safer working environments.

“This year’s theme, Safety and Health: A Commitment for Life! Making It Work, speaks to the responsibility we all have to promote workplace safety,” said the Honourable Paul Davis, Minister of Service NL. “The partnerships between employees, employers, unions and government which are celebrated during NAOSH week represent a tremendous opportunity to bring safety and health to the forefront, and create a commitment to these activities in workplaces across the province.”

2012 marks the 33rd year that this event has been celebrated throughout the continent.

What started out as a local, week-long initiative of the Canadian Society of Safety Engineers in St. John’s has grown into an event of international significance. NAOSH Week provides an annual reminder of the importance of safety and health to employers and workers alike in workplaces all across Canada, the United States and Mexico.

To launch NAOSH Week, there will be a ceremony and flag raising today (Monday, May 7) at 12:00 noon, in the lobby of Confederation Building, East Block. Members of the public are welcome to attend.
