New Mining Safety Regulations Now in Force

New mining regulations under the Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, 2012 are effective as of today (Tuesday, March 20).

“We have been conducting information sessions for mining properties around the province since these regulations were first announced, and we are receiving a very positive response,” said the Honourable Paul Davis, Minister of Service NL. “These new regulations help ensure workers are operating in healthy and safe workplaces through improved mines safety of worker regulations.”

These new regulations include enhancements to areas such as ventilation, mine design and emergency procedures for mine rescue. This consolidation also provides easier one-stop access to all occupational health and safety requirements within the Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, 2012, reduces duplication and streamlines the occupational health and safety regulatory environment.

The new regulations are available online at: //assembly.nl.ca/Legislation/sr/regulations/rc120005.htm.

In addition, copies can be purchased through the Office of the Queen’s Printer at 709-729-3649.
