More Newfoundlanders and Labradorians Renewing Vehicles Online

Throughout 2011, more people in this province than ever before chose to renew their automobile registrations online. The average monthly online registration rate was 58 per cent for the year, with a peak of 67 per cent for the month of July.

“With more and more demands on people’s time, the convenience of online services is becoming increasingly important,” said the Honourable Paul Davis, Minister of Service NL. “From the introduction of this secure registration service more than 10 years ago, we are quite pleased to see that the majority of Newfoundlanders and Labradorians are now choosing to renew online.”

Those choosing to renew their vehicle through the online registration system receive a 10 per cent discount over other methods of renewal such as at chartered banks and credit unions, or in person at various Motor Registration Division offices or Government Service Centres.

Minister Davis noted that the online renewal option is another example of efforts in recent years to streamline the services offered by the Provincial Government, and to increase access to services for the people of the province.

“With the creation of Service NL this past fall, and the continuing consolidation of our service centres, we are working to deliver the best one-stop service experience possible for the people of the province,” said Minister Davis. “The focus of Service NL is to continue to work with government departments and agencies, to ensure that the citizens and businesses in this province are able to access a wide range of government services in ways which meet their needs, regardless of where they are in the province.”

As a reminder, people without Internet access at home can visit a Canada/Newfoundland and Labrador Community Access Program Site to access free public Internet services. Individuals can call 1-877-929-1829 toll-free to locate the access centre nearest them. Internet services are also available at all provincial libraries. For more details visit www.nlpl.ca/
