Right to Know Week - September 24 – 28, 2012
To celebrate Right to Know (RTK) Week, the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner (OIPC) will participate in a number of public and private events during the week of September 24 to 28. This year marks the seventh year that Canadians have celebrated RTK Week and a decade of celebrating Right to Know Day (September 28).
The purpose of RTK Week is to raise awareness about people’s right to access government information, while promoting freedom of information as essential to both democracy and good governance.
The OIPC will be hosting an Open House for ATIPPA Coordinators and provincial access professionals; there will be a lunch and learn hosted by the Canadian Bar Association (CBA) on Tuesday, September 25, and open to members of the CBA; and an information booth at the Memorial University Campus Student Centre, on Wednesday, September 26, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., which is open to the public. As part of this information booth there will be handouts as well as a RTK Week survey, and prizes.
Also part of the 2012 RTK Week celebrations is the launch of the third Annual RTK Week Essay Competition. This contest is open to Newfoundlanders and Labradorians studying at the secondary or post-secondary level, as well as non-residents studying at Newfoundland and Labrador secondary and post-secondary institutions. Further information on this competition will be released separately as part of its launch on Friday, September 28.
