Public Advisory: Black Bear Warning Issued for
Gambo/Glovertown Area and Eastport Peninsula

The Department of Natural Resources is advising residents in the towns of Gambo and Glovertown, and on the Eastport Peninsula of recent black bear sightings.

Residents are encouraged to take appropriate steps to avoid attracting bears into their communities and backyards, where the animals can pose a risk to public safety.

Residents can assist by properly storing, collecting, and disposing of garbage. Garbage stored in open, wooden garbage boxes for days or even overnight is one of the most significant causes of bear/ human interactions.

If anyone encounters a bear, they are reminded to:

Anyone sighting a black bear in these areas is asked to contact the Natural Resources office in Gambo at 709-647-1521. Sightings can also be reported to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Detachment at 709-533-2828.
