Public Advisory: Prescribed Burn to be Conducted at Denny’s Pond

The Department of Natural Resources advises that it will conduct a 100-hectare prescribed burn starting today (Tuesday, September 4), weather permitting, at Denny’s Pond. The site is located approximately 21 kilometres southeast of the community of Millertown, and is adjacent to the Granite Lake resource road in Forest Management District 12.

The prescribed burn is being conducted as part of the province’s silviculture management program to prepare the site for planting, and to eliminate the threat of adelgid, a naturally-occurring forest pest which limits tree growth. If weather and wind conditions are not favourable, the burn will proceed as soon as conditions permit.

The Provincial Government will invest over $9.5 million in silviculture in Newfoundland and Labrador this year. This will help with the improvement of more than 8,000 hectares of land and lead to the planting of more than 10 million tree seedlings in the province.
