Public Advisory: Open Fires Are Not Permitted in Extreme Conditions

The Department of Natural Resources is asking the general public to act responsibly when using outdoor resources for work or recreation purposes.

Many areas of Labrador are experiencing extremely dry conditions and periods of hot and dry weather. As a result, the forest fire index in many areas is at high or extreme levels. Under such conditions it is imperative that everyone take all appropriate steps to prevent forest fires. Residents are reminded that outdoor fires are not permitted when the fire index is high or extreme.

Vigilance on behalf of the general public, when in and around forested areas, can decrease in the number of forest fires. The number to report a fire is toll-free 1-866-709-FIRE (3473), and is available in all areas of the province during forest fire season.
