Public Advisory: Consultation Session Planned for Central Labrador

To support the sustainable management of forests in Newfoundland and Labrador, a public consultation on the preparation of a new five-year operating plan for the Forest Management District in central Labrador has been scheduled for Tuesday, January 10.

The focus will be on District 19 which includes all Crown land located in central Labrador. The session is open to all individuals and organizations interested in or affected by forest management activities, including community leaders, commercial timber harvesters, domestic wood cutters, outfitters and environmental organizations. The meeting will take place 7 p.m. at Hotel North in Happy Valley-Goose Bay.

Five-year operating plans have been prepared for each forest management district in the province since the mid-1990s. The consultation session will explain the planning process and identify the individuals who will make up the planning team. Generally a representative of each stakeholder group becomes a planning team member.

For more information on the planning process, please contact Tanya Schlossek, Regional Ecosystem Planner, at 709-896-3405.
