$1.4 Million Announced in Infrastructure Funding for Town of Pasadena

The Town of Pasadena will receive $1.4 million in funding to improve municipal infrastructure. The Dunderdale Government is investing this funding from the 2012-14 Multi-Year Capital Works Program. The total investment, including a contribution by the town, is over $1.9 million.

“Municipalities work extremely hard to provide the best possible services for their residents,” said the Honourable Kevin O’Brien, Minister of Municipal Affairs. “The Town of Pasadena is an excellent example of this commitment. The Provincial Government is pleased to work with the town to deliver quality projects that will enhance such important municipal services.”

Over $496,000 has been identified to upgrade the sewer lift station. In addition, over $106,000 will be used for electrical upgrades at the fire station. A further $885,000 will go towards street upgrades and other projects to be determined in the future. The Town of Pasadena is providing 20 per cent of the total project cost as allocated based on population.

“I am pleased to see another significant investment in municipal infrastructure for the Town of Pasadena,” said The Honourable Tom Marshall, Minister of Finance and MHA for Humber East. “These investments will directly benefit the residents of the town through an improved sewer system and road upgrades.”

Budget 2012: People and Prosperity included $130 million over two years for municipal capital works projects. Since 2008, the Provincial Government has invested over $500 million in municipal capital works projects which has resulted in improved municipal infrastructure across the province. These projects have provided municipalities the opportunity to secure, develop and improve infrastructure for residents and support the long-term sustainability, growth and development of communities.

The Provincial Government has also maintained improved cost-shared funding ratios established in 2008 to benefit municipalities. For communities with populations below 3,000, the Provincial Government will continue to invest 90 per cent of the cost of new infrastructure with the municipality providing 10 per cent; 80 per cent of the cost will continue to be covered for populations between 3,000 and 7,000; and 70 per cent of the cost will continue to be covered for municipalities with populations over 7,000.
