Over $5 million for Paradise Municipal Infrastructure

The Dunderdale Government will support municipal infrastructure upgrades for the Town of Paradise through an investment of over $5 million in Provincial Government funding through the 2012-14 Multi-Year Capital Works Program. The total investment, which includes a contribution by the Town of Paradise, is approximately $7.6 million.

The Honourable Kevin O’Brien, Minister of Municipal Affairs, outlined details of the funding today at Paradise Town Council Office. Minister O’Brien was joined by the Honourable Paul Davis, Minister of Service NL and MHA for Topsail; David Brazil, MHA for Conception Bay East-Bell Island; and, Steve Kent, MHA for Mount Pearl North.

“This investment will allow for upgrades of two major roads in the town and replacement of a waterline,” said Minister O’Brien. “The Town of Paradise is experiencing significant growth in recent years and our government is pleased to continue to provide the necessary financial support to help the town respond to the increasing demands through enhanced municipal infrastructure.”

Funding will support upgrades to Karwood Drive, replacement of a regional waterline and upgrading and widening of Topsail Road. Funding is cost-shared, with the Provincial Government providing 70 per cent of the total cost.

“The Town of Paradise is pleased to partner with the Provincial Government to provide much needed improvements in infrastructure for the residents of Paradise and surrounding communities,” said Ralph Wiseman, Mayor of Paradise.

Budget 2012: People and Prosperity included $130 million over two years for municipal capital works projects throughout the province. Since 2008, the Provincial Government has invested over $500 million in municipal capital works projects which has resulted in improved municipal infrastructure across the province. These projects have provided municipalities the opportunity to secure, develop and improve infrastructure for residents and support the long-term sustainability of growth and development of communities throughout the province.
