Communities to Receive over $119,000 in Firefighting Equipment

The Provincial Government continues to place a priority on firefighting safety, today announcing more than $119,000 to be allocated among 15 fire departments throughout Newfoundland and Labrador.

“Our government recognizes the need for continued support for municipal fire departments as we provide access to equipment funding for our towns and communities,” said the Honourable Kevin O’Brien, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Minister Responsible for Fire and Emergency Services. “Ensuring the safety and security of the men and women of the fire service continues to be a priority, as we all take measures to make sure we are ready to respond in emergency situations.”

Fifteen fire departments will acquire new firefighting equipment as follows:

Funding for this equipment comes from the Provincial Firefighting Equipment Financial Assistance Program administered by Fire and Emergency Services – Newfoundland and Labrador (FES-NL). Fire departments successful in receiving funding have applied for the program with the support of their municipal council and have committed to cover their portion of the equipment through the previously established cost-share ratios.
