Local Manufacturer Benefits from Increased Innovation

Dalton’s Casket Manufacturing will use a Provincial Government investment of $62,080 to upgrade their production facilities in Cape Broyle. The new equipment will improve productivity and reduce operating costs.

“Greater innovation leads to greater business opportunities,” said the Honourable Keith Hutchings, Minister of Innovation, Business and Rural Development. “By adopting innovative practices and solutions, small businesses like Dalton’s Casket Manufacturing become more productive and efficient by reducing costs, waste and time. This equipment is an investment in the long-term viability of the company.”

Dalton’s Casket Manufacturing will use the funding to acquire a new spray booth. This equipment will improve the quality of their locally manufactured wooden caskets. The company anticipates these improvements will help it expand its operations and target new business opportunities.

“This new technology will without doubt improve the quality of our products, speed up processes, and save time and money, which enhances our competitiveness,” said Kevin Dalton, President and General Manager, Dalton’s Casket Manufacturing. “Most importantly, it will ensure that we continue to supply high quality burial products to funeral homes throughout Newfoundland and Labrador. This investment by the Provincial Government will help us continue to grow our company and compete with major international suppliers.”

Cape Broyle-based Dalton’s Casket Manufacturing is the only casket manufacturer in Newfoundland and Labrador. Since 1991, the company has been supplying caskets and related products to funeral homes throughout the province.

“Any company regardless of location, size, and sector can harness the power of innovation,” said Minister Hutchings. “Simple changes such as replacing old methods and practices with the latest applications can lead to efficiencies and new business and economic opportunities. As a government, we believe the programs and services established under the innovation strategy are fostering increased innovation related activities throughout Newfoundland and Labrador, especially among small businesses in rural regions.”

This initiative was funded through the Technology Utilization Program. Administrated by the Department of Innovation, Business and Rural Development, the Technology Utilization Program is an element of Innovation Newfoundland and Labrador: A Blueprint for Prosperity and assists businesses increase their technology capacity to improve business processes, product quality, efficiency and competitiveness.
