Industrial Rubber Expanding its Operations in Labrador

Industrial Rubber Labrador Ltd. will utilize a Provincial Government investment of $60,000 to hire and train six new employees for its rapidly expanding operations in Labrador.

“The booming mining sector and the development of other major projects in Labrador are creating tremendous economic and business opportunities,” said the Honourable Keith Hutchings, Minister of Innovation, Business and Rural Development. “Capitalizing on this growth, companies such as Industrial Rubber Labrador Ltd. require a highly-trained workforce to meet the increased demand for its products and services. As a government, we believe a solid workforce is key to the success and growth of any business.”

Incorporated in April 2011, Industrial Rubber Labrador Ltd. has two employees who are leading the start-up process. The six additional employees will be trained in-house, utilizing skilled trainers from the company’s Bathurst operation. If positive market conditions continue, the company plans to increase its workforce in Labrador to 11 employees by the end of 2012. In addition the company is building a 9,000 square foot facility in the Wabush Industrial Park, scheduled for completion in April 2012.

“Our natural resources sector is a significant contributor to the provincial economy and nowhere is this more evident than in Labrador,” said the Honourable Nick McGrath, Minister Responsible for Labrador Affairs”. “I am very pleased to see the service industry expanding to support the growing mining sector in Labrador West.”

The company also has operations in Bathurst, New Brunswick, and is a supplier of rubber lining parts to the mining, pulp and paper, power, and marine industry. The company’s Labrador operations will specialize in the manufacturing of rubber coated end products used in the mining industry.

“We are very excited about this project,” said Neil Peckham, Manger, Industrial Rubber Labrador Ltd. “This funding will allow the company to have our employees trained by senior specialists in the field, to ensure we provide only high quality products to the mining industry. The will allow a seamless transition in safety and quality at the Labrador operation”

This initiative was funded through the Workplace Skills Enhancement Program. Administered by the Department of Innovation, Business and Rural Development, the program helps small and medium-sized enterprises in strategic sectors acquire and increase the skills of employees to enhance productivity and global competitiveness. It is funded by the Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Labour Market Agreement and the Strategic Training and Transition Fund.
