Public Accounts Committee Thanks Outgoing Auditor General and Welcomes New Auditor General Terry Paddon
The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) extends its thanks to outgoing interim Auditor General Wayne Loveys today and welcomes the new Auditor General Terry Paddon.
Mr. Paddon has had a distinguished career in accounting and audit. A graduate of Memorial University of Newfoundland in Commerce he worked as an audit manager with Ernst and Young until 1990 before joining the Department of Finance. Starting as a tax manager he has most recently served as Deputy Minister of Finance for the past eight years.
Mr. Paddon’s appointment as Auditor General was supported by all three parties in the House of Assembly. The Auditor General audits government programs and compiles an annual report of his findings.
The role of the PAC is to hold government accountable for the stewardship of public assets and the spending of public funds (Standing Order 62 and the Green Report p. 5-44). Although its scope is not limited to the Auditor General’s Report, the Public Accounts Committee generally focuses it attention on the findings of the Auditor General, in its reviews of government spending.
