Funding Announced for Medical Facilities in St. Lawrence and Grand Bank
The U.S. Memorial Health Centre in St. Lawrence and the Grand Bank Health Centre are the latest facilities to benefit from Provincial Government funding. The health centres will receive a total investment of $295,000 through Budget 2012: People and Prosperity – Responsible Investments for a Secure Future, for the purchase of capital equipment, repairs and renovations this year.
The Honourable Susan Sullivan, Minister of Health and Community Services, was joined for today’s announcements by the Honourable Darin King, Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture and MHA for Grand Bank, and, Vickie Kaminski, CEO of Eastern Health.
“Our investment today demonstrates our continued commitment to making strategic investments in health and long-term care services throughout Newfoundland and Labrador to meet the needs of residents,” said Minister Sullivan. “This funding will improve care and enhance safety for residents and patients at the U.S. Memorial Health Centre and the Grand Bank Health Centre. These facilities play a key role in providing health services to communities on the Burin Peninsula.”
The U.S. Memorial Health Centre is being provided with $175,000 to replace the facility’s fire alarm system and $28,000 to purchase a refrigerator and microscope for the health centre’s laboratory.
“The health care facilities in St. Lawrence and Grand Bank are vitally important to the future of these communities and the people of the Burin Peninsula,” said Minister King. “Investing in these facilities and services helps ensure that the people living here have access to appropriate health care services within their communities and near their families.”
The Grand Bank Health Centre will purchase a refrigerator and patient lifts through an investment of $92,000.
“Today’s announcements demonstrate the ongoing commitment of the Provincial Government to high quality care to our patients on the Burin Peninsula,” said Ms. Kaminski. “They align closely with Eastern Health’s strategic priorities of quality and safety, in our physical environment, diagnostics and direct patient care.”
Since 2004, the Provincial Government has invested approximately $17 million in major redevelopment projects and new construction, repairs and renovations, and capital equipment purchases for the medical facilities in St. Lawrence and Grand Bank. This includes the construction of the Grand Bank Health Centre and the redevelopment of the Blue Crest Nursing Home.
