Ministers Express Condolences on the Passing of Fur Institute of Canada Chairman

The Honoruable Darin King, Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture, and the Honourable Jerome Kennedy, Minister of Natural Resources, today expressed condolences on the passing of D. Bruce Williams, long-time Chairman of the Fur Institute of Canada.

“It is with great sadness we learned of the passing of Bruce Williams, Chairman of the Fur Institute of Canada,” said Minister King. “On behalf of the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, I pass along our deepest condolences to his family and friends. Our thoughts and prayers are with Bruce’s wife Darlene, their daughter Melanie and the rest of their family. Bruce’s contribution to this industry will not soon be forgotten.”

Bruce Williams was the Chairman of the Fur Institute of Canada for the past 25 years. His contribution to the institute and the global fur trade and wildlife management community was immense, as was his contribution to the continuation of the Canadian seal hunt in recent years.

“Bruce guided the Fur Institute and the Canadian fur trade through some difficult times in recent years with a commitment unlike any other,” said Minister Kennedy. “This loss is immeasurable not only to the institute but the entire fur and trapping industry across the country and around the world.”

Mr. Williams was born in Antigonish, Nova Scotia, in 1949, and was a resident of Salisbury, New Brunswick, before his death on Sunday.
