Media Advisory: Minister King to Participate in Seal Day on the Hill

The Honourable Darin King, Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture, will join representatives of the Government of Canada and the seal and fur industries tomorrow (Thursday, February 2) to show support for the Canadian sealing industry.

The event, called Seal Day on the Hill, will take place outside the House of Commons on Parliament Hill before Question Period, beginning at 1:45 p.m. EST (3:15 p.m. NST).

Minister King will join the Honourable Keith Ashfield, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans; the Honourable Leona Aglukkaq, Minister of Health and Minister for the Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency; the Honourable Peter Penashue, Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, and President of the Queen's Privy Council for Canada and Regional Minister for Newfoundland and Labrador; the Honourable Steven Blaney, Minister of Veterans Affairs Canada and Minister representing Quebec; Minister James Arreak, Minister of Environment and Minister of Culture, Language, Elders and Youth, Nunavut; Denis Longuépée, Magdalen Island Sealing Association; and, David Hutton, Vice-Chairman of the Fur Institute of Canada.

Minister King will be available to the media following Question Period to discuss the importance of both levels of government working together to open markets for seal products.
