Media Advisory: Atlantic Status of Women Ministers to Launch Cybersafe Girl Initiative

In celebration of the first International Day of the Girl, the Honourable Charlene Johnson, Minister Responsible for the Status of Women and lead Minister for the Violence Prevention Initiative, will join other Atlantic Status of Women Ministers to launch the Cybersafe Girl project tomorrow (Thursday, October 11). The event will take place at 9:00 a.m. in the library of MacDonald Drive Junior High School in St. John’s. Media are asked to enter through the main entrance and will be met by students and brought to the library.

Other ministers involved with the Violence Prevention Initiative will also be in attendance.

International Day of the Girl was proclaimed by the United Nations as a way to promote equal treatment and opportunities for girls worldwide, including freedom from violence and abuse. The Cybersafe Girl project provides young girls, as well as parents and educators, with information on how girls experience violence and abuse on the internet as well as what can be done to prevent these incidents from happening.
