Premier Announces Senior Appointment

The Honourable Kathy Dunderdale, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, today announced the appointment of Lori Anne Companion to the position of Deputy Minister, Department of Child, Youth and Family Services, effective November 1, 2012.

“I congratulate Ms. Companion on her appointment to this challenging role,” said Premier Dunderdale. “She has provided many years of service to the people of Newfoundland and Labrador and I look forward to her contributions in this new capacity.”

Ms. Companion will replace Sheree MacDonald, who will retire at the end of October after a lengthy career with the provincial public service.

“Ms. MacDonald’s dedication and contributions over more than 30 years of service are to be commended,” said the Premier. “I wish her all the best in her retirement.”

BACKGROUNDER
Biographical Information

Lori Anne Companion
Lori Anne Companion has been a member of the provincial public service since 1986. She has held several senior management and executive positions within the public service. She currently is Assistant Deputy Minister (Policy and Programs) with the Department of Child, Youth and Family Services. Prior to this appointment she served as Assistant Deputy Minister (Municipal Support and Policy), Department of Municipal Affairs. Her other roles included Private Secretary to the Lieutenant Governor; Cabinet Officer, Director of Cabinet Operations and Assistant Secretary to Cabinet (Economic Policy), Cabinet Secretariat, Executive Council; Senior Policy Analyst and Director of Economic and Resource Policy in the Intergovernmental Affairs Secretariat of Executive Council; and Manager of Pension Benefit Standards.

Ms. Companion received a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics and statistics from Memorial University, and has completed Memorial's Executive Development Program.
