Media Advisory: Premier Dunderdale to Participate in Home from The Sea Campaign Groundbreaking Ceremony
The Honourable Kathy Dunderdale, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, will participate in a groundbreaking ceremony for the site of a Sealers Memorial Interpretation Centre as part of the Home from The Sea campaign in Elliston, Trinity Bay, tomorrow (Friday, September 21) at 11:00 a.m.
Premier Dunderdale will join the Honourable John C. Crosbie, Lieutenant Governor of Newfoundland and Labrador and Home from The Sea Campaign Patron; the Honourable Peter Penashue, Regional Minister for Newfoundland and Labrador, Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs and President of the Queen’s Privy Council for Canada; and, Myrtle Stagg, Chair of the Elliston Heritage Foundation.
Also attending is the Honourable Darin King, Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture; and, Glen Little, MHA for Bonavista South.
Since its launch in December 2011, the Home from The Sea campaign has been active in raising $2.5 million to build a memorial statue, educational interpretation centre and walking path that will honour sealers and recognize the cultural and economic contributions of the seal fishery. The Provincial Government has contributed $500,000 to the campaign.
