Premier Announces Senior Appointments

The Honourable Kathy Dunderdale, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, today announced senior appointments to the provincial public service.

Glenda Power has been appointed (Acting) Associate Secretary to Cabinet (Communications). She replaces Josephine Cheeseman, who recently retired after a lengthy career with the Provincial Government. Ms. Power most recently served in the role of Communications Director in the Office of the Premier, having served in various communications capacities within the Provincial Government prior to that.

Brian Miller is appointed Assistant Deputy Minister (Client Services) in the Human Resource Secretariat of Executive Council. Mr. Miller previously served as Executive Director (Employee Relations), in the secretariat.

“I extend congratulations to Ms. Power and look forward to her contributions in this new role,” said Premier Dunderdale. “I also congratulate Mr. Miller and thank him for his continued service to the people of Newfoundland and Labrador. These two individuals bring tremendous assets to the provincial public service.”

Both appointments are effective immediately.

Premier Dunderdale also extended best wishes to Ms. Cheeseman on her retirement.
“I wish Ms. Cheeseman all the best in her retirement after many years of valued service to the Provincial Government,” said the Premier.

BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

Glenda Power
Glenda Power has served in senior communications roles within the Provincial Government in Executive Council and in the Departments of Health and Community Services, Business, and Tourism, Culture and Recreation. Most recently, Ms. Power served as Director of Communications in the Office of the Premier, prior to which her role was Director of Strategic Communications, Planning and Priorities with Executive Council. Before working with the Provincial Government, Ms. Power spent several years as a certified Dale Carnegie Trainer. She began her professional career as a high school English teacher. Ms. Power holds the degrees of Bachelor of Arts (English) and Bachelor of Education from Memorial University.

Brian Miller
Brian Miller most recently served as Executive Director (Employee Relations) in the Human Resource Secretariat of Executive Council. He began his service to the public of Newfoundland and Labrador as a guidance counsellor with the Labrador East Integrated School Board in 1980, later moving to the Department of Social Services as Administrator of the Whitbourne Youth Centre. He also held the positions of Provincial Co-ordinator of Vocational Services and Manager of Human Resources with the Department of Social Services. Mr. Miller has served as Director of Human Resources with the St. John’s Nursing Home Board, Manager of Human Resources with College of the North Atlantic – Qatar, and Director of Labour Relations with the Newfoundland and Labrador School Boards Association. He has also worked with the Department of Justice, Treasury Board Secretariat and as Director of School Services Division with the Department of Education. Mr. Miller holds a Bachelor of Arts (honours), psychology and a Masters of Education (educational psychology) from Memorial University.
