Senior Appointment Announced

The Honourable Kathy Dunderdale, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, today announced the appointment of James Evans as CEO of the Forestry and Agrifoods Agency, Department of Natural Resources. Mr. Evans succeeds Len Moores, who recently retired from the provincial public service.

“Mr. Evans is a well-respected senior executive with the Department of Natural Resources and his extensive knowledge and experience within the forestry and agrifoods industry will serve him well in this new role,” said Premier Dunderdale. “I would also like to thank Mr. Moores for his significant contributions to the Provincial Government and wish him well in his retirement.”

Mr. Evans most recently served as Assistant Deputy Minister of the Forestry and Agrifoods Agency and has held numerous roles in the public and private sectors since 1981.

Mr. Evans’ appointment is effective immediately. The CEO position is headquartered in Corner Brook and reports directly to the Minister of Natural Resources.

Biographical Information

James (Jim) Evans first worked with the Provincial Government in 1981 as Project Manager – Harvesting Operations in Bay d’Espoir. In 1983, he joined AbitibiBowater in Grand Falls-Windsor where he held various senior roles including Manager of Forestry / Environmental Coordinator, Supervisor of Silviculture and Environment, and Silviculture Foreman for more than 27 years. In 2010, Mr. Evans rejoined the public service as Supervisor of Forest Insect and Disease Control with the Department of Natural Resources. He was appointed Assistant Deputy Minister of the Forestry and Agrifoods Agency in June 2011.

Mr. Evans holds a Forest Technology diploma from the Maritime Forest Ranger School in Fredericton, New Brunswick, as well as a Bachelor of Science degree (Forest Management) from the University of Maine. He is also a Registered Professional Forester, past Chair of the Newfoundland and Labrador Forest Protection Association, and a board member of Model Forest of Newfoundland and Labrador.
