Public Service Employees Honoured with Prestigious Award

Public service employees display integrity, diligence and pride in their work on a daily basis. At a ceremony held today, the Honourable Tom Marshall, Minister of Finance and Minister Responsible for the Human Resource Secretariat and Robert Thompson, Clerk of the Executive Council, presented the 2011 Public Service Award of Excellence. Receiving the award this year were six individuals and one team whose dedication and commitment to serving the people of the province exemplify the spirit of the award.

“I am honoured to acknowledge the hard work and commitment to excellence shown by this year’s very deserving award winners,” said the Honourable Kathy Dunderdale, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador. “These public service employees are to be commended for their outstanding service delivery and leadership. They serve as an example to all members of the public service of the importance of professionalism and excellence and I’m sure I speak for all Newfoundlanders and Labradorians when I say that their efforts are greatly appreciated.”

The Public Service Award of Excellence is the highest honour an employee can receive from the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador. Open to all employees, this award highlights excellence and outstanding job performance at both individual and team levels. It celebrates the exceptional work, commitment, and creativity of employees who are making a notable contribution to the people of Newfoundland and Labrador.

“There may be no greater honour than to be selected by your peers as an outstanding employee and colleague,” said Mr. Thompson. “That’s what makes the Public Service Award of Excellence so special. The unwavering dedication and positive attitudes of this year’s recipients led to their nominations and I want to extend a sincere thank you to each of them for the role they play in our province’s success. All employees should be applauded for their continued efforts in achieving the goals of the Provincial Government.”

The Public Service Awards of Excellence was implemented in 2001. Since that time, nearly 500 nominations have been received and 71 individuals and 34 teams have been recognized for their outstanding contributions to the public service.
