Environmental Assessment Bulletin

The Honourable Terry French, Minister of Environment and Conservation, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKINGS REGISTERED:

Salmonier Line Nature Trail
Proponent: The Wilds Golf Resort (Reg. 1673)

The proponent has submitted a proposal for the development of a 1.6 kilometre nature/hiking trail around golf hole #18 at the Wilds Golf Resort. Operations will include construction of boardwalks, crib steps, retaining walls, signage, stairs and bridges. The proposed hiking trail will provide the tourist industry a safe hiking surface built to withstand a higher volume of traffic and minimize damage to sensitive environments. The work is scheduled to being in Fall 2012.

The undertaking was registered on October 11, 2012; the deadline for public comments is November 15, 2012; and the minister’s decision is due by November 25, 2012.

Bay D’Espoir Highway Fish Mortality Collection and Equipment Storage Yard
Proponent: Cold Ocean Salmon Inc. (Reg. 1675)

The proponent intends to operate a fish mortality collection facility and an equipment storage yard near the exit to Pool’s Cove and Belleoram on Route 360. Fish carcasses, from fish farms in the Coast of Bays region, will be trucked to the facility and transferred to a container truck for transport to a composting facility in Corner Brook. Tubs used to transport the fish from the fish farms will then be disinfected using a steam pressure washer. Effluent will be discharged to the ground. Construction is proposed to begin in the fall of 2012, upon receipt of all required permits and approvals.

The undertaking was registered on October 10, 2012; the deadline for public comments is November 15, 2012; and the minister’s decision is due by November 24, 2012.
