Cottage Lots Now Available on the Avalon Peninsula

The Salmonier Line on the Avalon Peninsula is now the site of 68 cottage lots that will be sold through an upcoming public draw process. The lots, ranging in price from $38,000 to $77,000, will be sold as grants (outright ownership) and must be paid in full upon the signing of the title document.

“Many residents of the province express an interest in cottage lots, particularly in the Avalon region,” said the Honourable Terry French, Minister of Environment and Conservation. “Crown land is a valuable resource, and we are pleased to make these lots in Salmonier available through the public draw process. It is important we manage Crown land wisely while, at the same time, allowing successful applicants to develop cottage lots in a safe and environmentally sound manner.”

Anyone interested in obtaining a lot must submit a public draw entry form to the Eastern Regional Lands Office in St. John’s no later than 4:15 p.m. on Friday, October 12. Forms received after the deadline will not be eligible. Entry forms are available on the website at: www.gov.nl.ca/env, by calling 709-729-2654, or at the Eastern Regional Lands Office at:

The public draw to determine selection order for the lots will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, November 1, at the Eastern Regional Lands office, Howley Building, Higgins Line, St. John’s. Entrants may attend this meeting, but attendance is not compulsory. The randomly sorted list will be posted on the website and at Crown lands offices following the draw. The list will not display any personal contact information. It is the responsibility of entrants to check for their ranking in the draw. Draw entrants will not be contacted by the Crown lands office.

Lot selection will take place at a public meeting starting 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at the Capital Hotel, Kenmount Road, St. John’s. Attendance by draw entrants or their designated representative will be required. An application fee of $100 plus $13 HST, along with a $200 document processing fee, must be paid at the time a lot is selected. The non-refundable fees will be charged towards the cost of processing the application and preparing title documents. Anyone interested in obtaining a lot is advised to inspect the lots and view on-site septic system evaluation reports prior to the selection meeting.

This is the first allocation of lots in this cottage lot development, with further allocations taking place over the next several years.
