Environmental Assessment Bulletin

The Honourable Terry French, Minister of Environment and Conservation, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKINGS REGISTERED:

Robinsons Wood Bison Farm             (Reg. 1671)
Proponent: Michelle Young

The proponent has submitted a proposal for the development of a 35-hectare wood bison farm located on Farm Road off the Trans-Canada Highway, near Robinsons. The development of the farm will include: the construction of a handling/corral system and a Norsteel building; clearing of land for paddocks, perimeter fencing and boundary line and construction of fencing. The farm will start with a foundation herd of 15 animals and have an estimated total number of 96 animals by year 10. Future expansion of the farm includes the addition of a 20-hectare parcel of land located along Farm Road. Construction of the farm is expected to being in the fall 2012 and be completed in four to six months.

The undertaking was registered on September 18, 2012; the deadline for public comments is October 26, 2012; and the minister’s decision is due by November 1, 2012.

Cormack Area Christmas Tree Farm             (Reg. 1670)
Proponent: Natasha Fox

The proponent intends to operate a Christmas tree farm on approximately 300 hectares of land located west of Route 430, north of Cormack. Up to six buildings are also proposed to be constructed, approximately four metre by five metres in size. Construction is proposed to begin in the fall of 2012, upon receipt of all required permits approvals.

The undertaking was registered on September 17, 2012; the deadline for public comments is October 26, 2012; and the minister’s decision is due by November 1, 2012.

Forteau Wharf and Lay Down Area             (Reg. 1669)
Proponent: Bay Bulls Properties Ltd.

The proponent proposes to construct a wharf and lay down area for shipment of rock from a nearby quarry at Forteau, near Crow Head, Labrador. The proposed wharf would be 140 metres long by 70 metres wide and the lay down area will be approximately 1,200 metres along the shoreline by 50 metres wide. The proposed project involves the development of approximately seven hectares of land. Site access will be via the Trans-Labrador Highway and will include upgrading a partially developed road and construction of a 700 metre extension.

The undertaking was registered on September 13, 2012; the deadline for public comments is October 26, 2012; and the minister’s decision is due by October 28, 2012.
