Environmental Assessment Bulletin

The Honourable Terry French, Minister of Environment and Conservation, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKING REGISTERED:

Pouch Cove Quarry Extension (Reg. 1666)
Proponent: GWK Holdings Inc.

The proponent has submitted a proposal for the expansion of an existing quarry located near Birch Hill Gully, accessed via Meetinghouse Road and west of Murrin’s Road in the boundaries of the Town of Pouch Cove on the Northeast Avalon. The proposed quarry expansion will extend the quarry approximately five hectares to the south of Birch Hill Gully. Operations will include clearing, grubbing, quarrying, crushing, screening of materials on an as needed basis and transporting the processed aggregate to the local area. The proposed quarry expansion is needed due to depletion of resources in the existing quarry and will provide a long-term aggregate supply for various purposes in the local area. The proposed work is scheduled to begin during the fall of 2012 or spring 2013.

The undertaking was registered on August 27, 2012; the deadline for public comments is October 1, 2012; and the minister’s decision is due by October 11, 2012.
