Environmental Assessment Bulletin

The Honourable Terry French, Minister of Environment and Conservation, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

REVISED COMPONENT STUDIES ACCEPTABLE:

Labrador – Island Transmission Link             (Reg. 1407)
Proponent: Nalcor Energy

Following public, Aboriginal and governmental review, the revised Socioeconomic Environment: Communities, Land and Resource Use, Tourism and Recreation Component Study, submitted on April 10, 2012, is acceptable.

Following public, Aboriginal and governmental review, the revised Marine Environment: Marine Mammals, Sea Turtles and Seabirds Component Study, submitted on April 10, 2012, is acceptable subject to the following:

Following public, Aboriginal and governmental review, the additional information submitted on the Historic and Heritage Resources Component Study, submitted on April 10, 2012, is acceptable.

UNDERTAKINGS REGISTERED:

Heart’s Desire Quarry             (Reg. 1652)
Proponent: Star Realty

The proponent proposes to establish a five hectare quarry approximately 1.5 kilometres south of Heart’s Desire, south of the existing Transportation and Works quarry and just west of Route 80. The quarry will produce crushed red shale aggregate for use in the local area. The quarry will operate during the summer/fall construction season and will commence upon approval.

The undertaking was registered on June 20, 2012; the deadline for public comments is July 25, 2012; and the minister’s decision is due by August 4, 2012.

Heart’s Delight Quarry             (Reg. 1653)
Proponent: Star Realty

The proponent proposes to establish a five-hectare quarry approximately 1.5 kilometres north of Heart’s Delight, north of the existing Transportation and Works quarry, and just west of Route 80. The quarry will produce crushed red shale aggregate for use in the local area. The quarry will operate during the summer/fall construction season and will commence upon approval.

The undertaking was registered on June 20, 2012; the deadline for public comments is July 25, 2012; and the minister’s decision is due by August 4, 2012.

Charles Brook (Botwood Area) Access Road             (Reg. 1654)
Proponent: Victoria Sharron

The proponent intends to construct a 1.5 kilometre access road and cottage in the Brook Harbour area, north of Charles Brook and near the Town of Botwood. The new access road will connect to an existing cabin access road and will be approximately five metres in width. The project is scheduled to commence upon approval.

The undertaking was registered on June 20, 2012; the deadline for public comments is July 27, 2012; and the minister’s decision is due by August 4, 2012.
